About the pattern
Little Alvi cardigan is knitted top down and back and forth on circular needles. First, stitches are cast on for the back piece, followed by short rows at the neck. The back piece is then worked until the armhole depth is reached. Subsequently, stitches are picked up for each front piece, after which short rows and increases for the V-neck are performed. Once the armhole depth is reached, the body is joined and once reaching the desired length, it is finished with a simple rib, double knitting and Italian bind-off.
Next, the sleeves are picked up and knitted in the round while working decreases. They are finished the same way as the body.
Lastly, stitches are picked up for the button band. It is worked in simple rib while making buttonholes on the left side and finished by double knitting and Italian bind-off.
The pattern includes instructions for knitting in stripes, making it a great project for using leftover yarn.
Choice of size
The cardigan is designed with a positive ease of 8-13 cm / 3.25-5.25’’, giving some room for the child to grow. The age range is only for guidance. It’s best to measure the child’s bust circumference and then choose size based upon desired amount of positive ease.
Sleeve and body lengths can easily be adjusted.
Choice of yarn
Any DK yarn (gauge of approx. 20-22 sts per 10 cm / 4’’) can be used. Note that the yardage might change if yarn is switched out.
